Dublin, 26th October 2011

In response to an upsurge in emergency calls from its motor and home insurance customers following widespread flooding last evening, Zurich has published an emergency Flood Guide available for download from

The emergency guide provides tips for homeowners and motorists to prepare for any further flooding including, how to deal with loss of electricity and water, packing an emergency kit and ways to stay safe in the home and on the road. The guide also offers advice for those dealing with the aftermath of floods including, checking insurance cover and policy documents, health and safety advice for returning to your home or vehicle, and the relevant contact numbers to advance the claims process.

Neville Dunne, Chief Claims Officer, Zurich, said; "This can be an emotional and stressful time for anyone affected by the floods. Zurich can not only help in dealing with the initial stage of the loss but also with the aftermath. As many victims assess the damage to their property or vehicles, our claims staff are committed to giving our customers all the support they need. In order to make the process as efficient as possible, we would advise our customers to review their policy documents, take photographs of any flood damage and keep receipts for any emergency pumping or repair work done."

Zurich has deployed specialist on-site assessment and support services to help victims of the extensive flooding. Zurich customers affected by flooding should call Zurich HelpPoint, a 24 hour claim and notification service on 1800 208 408.
